Hobart represents clients in civil litigation in all state and federal courts in Vermont with particular emphasis on family law and employment matters, and representation of creditors in bankruptcy court. Hobart’s family law practice includes divorce, child custody matters, and post-divorce enforcement and modification matters. His employment law practice includes advising and representing employers and individuals in employment discrimination and wrongful termination matters.
Hobart has extensive experience in alternative means of dispute resolution, such as negotiation and mediation, where the client’s needs are best served by resolution out of court. He believes that a collaborative approach, where appropriate, can be particularly effective in resolving family disputes, because it has the potential to minimize the emotional and financial impacts that can flow from litigating a family case in court.
Prior to joining Langrock Sperry & Wool in 2007, Hobart worked for four years at Day, Berry & Howard in Boston, where he practiced commercial and employment litigation. During law school, Hobart worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston, and at the Boston University Office of General Counsel. Prior to attending law school, Hobart worked in the mutual fund industry and as a facilitator of professional foreign exchange programs for guests of the U.S. State Department.
Outside of the office, Hobart is an associate member of the Vermont Board of Bar Examiners and is active with the Vermont Bar Association. In his free time, Hobart enjoys creative cooking as well as camping, hiking, skiing and biking. Hobart is a native of the Middlebury area, and lives with his family in South Burlington.
