David W. M. Conard

David represents clients in all aspects of real estate law including acquisition and financing, permitting, and land title litigation. He represents contractors, architects and owners in negotiating and administering construction contracts, as well as resolving construction disputes, whether through litigation or arbitration. David regularly represents commercial lenders in financing real estate development and construction projects. He provides mediation and arbitration services in construction and real estate matters, and has served as a special master by appointment of Chittenden Superior Court.

David writes and lectures on real estate and construction law topics, and is a co-author of Fifty State Construction Lien and Bond Law, 2d (Aspen Publishing, 2000).  He is recognized as a leading real estate lawyer in The Best Lawyers in America®, in Chambers USA America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and by bestofus.com; and as a leading real estate lawyer and construction litigator in New England Super Lawyers.

David is a former board member and past president of the Committee on Temporary Shelter, a Burlington based non-profit organization which provides services to the homeless, and those at risk of homelessness. He is the Vice Chairman of the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, a non-profit youth leadership service, conservation and education organization.  He is the Chair of the Development Review Board in his home town of Shelburne, and he has been appointed by the president of the Vermont Bar Association to serve on committees studying real estate law specialization, and the unauthorized practice of law.

David indulges his passion for wooden boats on Lake Champlain and, more often, in his woodworking shop. He and his wife actively enjoy Vermont’s outdoors on bicycles and skis.
