Tom joined LSW in 1984 after clerking for U.S. District Court Judge Albert W. Coffrin. His practice includes litigation in all local courts, commercial transactions, family law and planning for businesses and individuals. He has particular interest in resolving disputes between business owners, including in family court. Tom has a growing practice in mediation and is a strong advocate of using alternative dispute resolution in the right case at the right time, knowing that the best outcomes are controlled by clients rather than the courts.

Tom has counseled a broad variety of new, growing, mature and troubled businesses, as well as families and individuals in need of business and estate planning. He is an adjunct professor of business law at St. Michael's College.

Tom and his wife live in St. George (with two sons in college), where he has been chair of the Selectboard since 1992 and moderator of school meeting since 1998. He is currently President of the Board of the Young Writers Project, and past president, capital campaign and construction chair of the Vermont Youth Orchestra. He is a past director of the Greater Burlington Industrial Corporation and now active in bar association efforts to improve funding for legal services. Tom loves to ski, bike, hike and work on the family cabin in the Adirondacks.
