Emily has practiced as a trial attorney with Langrock Sperry & Wool since 1983, after clerking for the Vermont Supreme Court. Her practice focuses on complex and multi-party litigation, including catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases, environmental class actions, propane gas explosions, and automobile accidents. She represents those injured in nursing homes, in work-place accidents, and as a result of medical negligence. She represents groups of property owners adversely affected by the pollution practices of industrial neighbors. She also represents individuals in employment matters, including sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful discharge.

Emily is a frequent presenter in litigation seminars, and was Chair of the Vermont Human Rights Commission from 1991-2000. She has written several articles, including “Representing Plaintiffs in Common Law Pollution Actions,” Chapter 7 of the Vermont Environmental Law Practice Manual, 1998; “Parents’ Pecuniary Injuries for the Wrongful Death of An Adult Child,” 12 Vermont Law Review 57, 1987; and “Pro-se Divorce: A Strategy for Empowering Women,” 1 Journal of Law & Inequality, 1983.

Emily lives in Middlebury with her husband and two children. For years, she has been active on the boards of several area non-profit organizations, including the Addison County Parent/Child Center, and Addison County Home Health. In 2007, she headed a grass roots effort to establish a teen center in Middlebury, dubbed 94Main, serving teens from the seven surrounding towns. She enjoys spending time with her family, cross country skiing, practicing yoga, gardening and knitting.
